Charlie Strong's record in three seasons at Texas wasn't the prettiest. Strong was fired after a 16-21 record with the Longhorns, but the now South Florida head coach made one thing clear on Thursday: he believes that he left the program in a much better place than when he inherited it.
Strong made the comment on ESPN following his introductory press conference with South Florida on Thursday. Strong does have a decent point: he recruited well while changing the culture of the program, which had become somewhat toxic at the end of the Mack Brown era. The atmosphere is ripe for Herman to come into Austin and to do well.

Strong also said that he appreciated his time at Texas, but it makes sense that he feels he didn't get a fair shot. Strong was on the hot seat starting in his second season with the Longhorns, and a lot of people feel that he simply wasn't given enough time with enough grace from the administration to do well.
Of course, if Herman comes in and does great immediately with Texas, some may wonder exactly how much more time Strong thought he needed to turn the program back into a contender.
Strong is now at South Florida and it will be his job to keep up with what Willie Taggart was doing with that program. The Bulls were 10-2 on the season, and will be playing in the Birmingham Bowl against South Carolina.
