City of Oregon, Ohio to change its name in support of the Buckeyes

With the Ohio State Buckeyes taking on the Oregon Ducks in the National Championship Game on January 12, the city of Oregon, Ohio finds itself in a tough spot. In an effort to appease Buckeyes fans and show the city's support for Ohio State, the city of Oregon will temporarily change its name for game day.

According to the Toledo Free Press, a petition was filed by two Oregon residents to change the name.

"I grew up in Oregon, Ohio and love the city, but for the day of the 'Big Game' I am asking the city council to make a proclamation to change the name of the city for one day," reads the petition, posted by Oregon native Matt Squibb. "Call it Buckeye Town, Ohio City, Brutusville, whatever, you get the point. Let's not leave anything to chance here! Change the name and support the Buckeyes!"

The name change will be announced on January 5, a week ahead of the National Championship game in Dallas.
