Quarterback Johnny Manziel's days in Cleveland are finally over. The Browns, after waiting two days from the start fo free agency on March 9, officially waived him on Friday morning. The move is hardly surprising — the Browns released a scathing statement last month that essentially all but released him, criticizing his conduct throughout his time in Cleveland, including the end of the season.
The Browns selected Manziel with the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and the former Texas A&M star appeared in 14 games with eight starts over two seasons. He 147 of 258 passes for 1,675 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. He added 259 rushing yards and one score. Last season, Manziel started six games, appearing in nine total, and threw for 1,500 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 230 rushing yards.
As for where Manziel will land next is currently up in the air. The Dallas Police Department has sent his domestic violence case to go before a grand jury, so some teams will likely consider the outcome of that before they make any moves with him. The one team that looks to be a viable possibility is the San Francisco 49ers, who reportedly want to get rid of quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has been reported to want to go to Cleveland with new head coach Hue Jackson.
