The news comes after Utah finished their season earlier this week with a 26-24 win over Indiana in the Foster Farms Bowl. Utah finished 9-4 on the season.
You may know Erickson best as the former head coach of Miami, Oregon State, and Arizona State. Erickson had his most success with the Hurricanes, going 63-9 in six seasons, including two national titles in 1989 and 1991.
Erickson is 179-96-1 in 23 career seasons as a head coach in college football. He also coached six seasons in the NFL with the 49ers and Seahawks, compiling a 40-56 career record.
Erickson had been serving on Utah's staff under Kyle Whittingham for the past four seasons. Whittingham will now have to replace Erickson and co-offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick, who is parting ways with the school.
