After an up-and-down season that saw a thrilling championship game, but disappointing ratings, College Football Playoff chairman Jeff Long will apparently be stepping down from that position.

McMurphy does not specify if Long will be stepping down from the committee entirely, but this still is not a great look for the organization after a year of bad ratings. Long's overall term with the committee ends in February of 2018. Three other committee members are set to leave next month due to their term expiring: Tom Osborne, Michael Gould, and Mike Tranghese.
The potential favorite to take over the chair position? Don't be surprised if Stanford provost and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice gets a shot at the job, as Rice would make a recognizable face for the chair of the committee.
