Details emerge on the arrest of Notre Dame's Devin Butler

The senior defensive back is facing some bad news.

A total of six Notre Dame players have been arrested in the past 24 hours. Five were arrested late on Friday during a traffic stop that involved alleged marijuana possession and illegal possession of a handgun. The other? That was defensive back Devin Butler, who was arrested after an incident at the linebacker Lounge bar on early Saturday morning.

According to the Associated Press, Butler was arrested after an altercation with a police officer.

Officers had to use a stun gun to subdue Butler in the altercation outside the Linebacker Lounge in South Bend, according to a probable cause affidavit.

South Bend police spokesman Lt. Joe Galea said that after officers broke up a fight inside the bar they saw two women fighting outside when Butler allegedly shoved one of the women. Butler was agitated and when officers told him to back away he allegedly pushed the officers and then attacked one of them.

Butler is potentially facing battery on law enforcement and resisting law enforcement charges. Both of those charges are felonies. The report indicates that Butler was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

The report says that the officer involved had to be taken to the hospital to treat "minor injuries".

According to a Notre Dame spokesman, "any student arrested on a felony charge also faces dismissal from the university." Butler will definitely have a lot to be dealing with from this over the coming months.

In three seasons, Butler has played in 37 games for the Fighting Irish. He has recorded 39 career tackles and seven pass breakups.
