ESPN fires shots at most overrated college football playoff contenders

These fan bases now have bulletin board material.

The college football season is still a ways away, meaning which squads will actually be in the race for the College Football Playoffs is still to be determined.

The fine people at ESPN broke down the most overrated teams out of the Power 5 conferences, noting out of the ACC and SEC, the writers needed to a choose a team likely to make the college football playoffs, but one that was overrated.

Naturally the conversation broke down to either Clemson or Florida State, and Alabama or LSU.

For the SEC, Edward Aschoff opted to pick LSU as the SEC's most overrated contender, despite admitting it might have the most talented team in the conference.

"No matter the talent — or the supposed improvement of embattled quarterback Brandon Harris — we have no clue how this team and coaching staff will react to adversity. I can't trust a team that has to walk a tightrope all season long and could crumble at the first misstep."

As for the ACC, Jared Shanker went with Florida State as the most overrated, leaving Clemson along with Alabama as consensus playoff picks.

"A seasoned, future first-round draft pick at quarterback isn't required to win a championship, as we've seen lately, but Florida State's offensive line and receivers have not yet proven they can shoulder part of the QB's burden. Clemson will be inexperienced on defense, but the offense could be the country's best."

Check out who they've got as the overrated squads out of the Pac-12 and Big-12 here.
