ESPN says these five schools currently lead the way in 2017 recruiting

Two teams closing in on Ohio State?

The recruiting news of the past week or so? It's all about Baylor, as the school has lost the commitment of five 2017 recruits ever since the firing of Art Briles due to the sexual assault scandal on campus.

What is also news, though, is that ESPN updated their 2017 class rankings recently, and there are some interesting teams at the top of the list right now.

Ohio State, of course, is still No. 1 in the rankings across the board. The Buckeyes have been ruling the 2017 recruiting class for quite some time now, as their current class of 13 commits — including two five-star recruits — is hard to top.

What is interesting, though, is that two SEC schools are coming hard for that crown. Next in line on ESPN's rankings are Alabama and LSU, two teams that have are definitely rising since the last time we talked about recruiting rankings. For comparison, Alabama was at No. 6 over at 247Sports at the beginning of April, and LSU wasn't even in the Top 10.

LSU has added a a ton of recruits over the past month, which has completely shot them up most recruiting boards. Alabama has somewhat held steady, but one intriguing part about their class is their average recruit rating; according to 247Sports, Alabama recruits for 2017 have the highest average rating of any class. Yes, even higher than Ohio State. Considering that the Crimson Tide will keep adding high profile recruits, they might actually be the team that finally knocks Ohio State out of the No. 1 spot.

Completing the Top 5 over at ESPN are Oklahoma and Georgia. Just being them are Miami, and then a group of College Football Playoff hopefuls: Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Florida State.
