Fans Outraged At 'Boring' Orange Bowl Matchup

But despite the anticipation for this Orange Bowl matchup between the Nittany Lions and Fighting Irish, the first half was more underwhelming than fans expected. After the first half, there was just one touchdown scored between both teams as Penn State led Notre Dame 10-3.

Fans on social media were noticeably disappointed about the first half.

"Orange bowl boring as f**k," one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"The Orange Bowl, iconic but also the most boring helmet matchup," another person added.

James Franklin Calls Out Notre Dame

Notre Dame had a difficult path to the semi-final against Penn State. Knocking off the second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs and a very game Indiana Hoosiers squad. But there are some who question why the Irish even made the field. Being that Notre Dame is not connected to a conference which some also believe gives them an unfair advantage.

Penn State James Franklin believes that it is time for a change in that aspect of college football, pleading for "uniformity" in the sport.

"It should be consistent across college football," Franklin said.

"This is no knock at [Freeman] or Notre Dame, but I think everybody should be in a conference. I think everybody should play a conference championship game, or nobody should play a conference champion championship game. I think everybody should play the same number of conference games. I was not a math major at East Stroudsburg, but just the numbers are going to make things more challenging if you're playing one more conference game. We need somebody that is looking at it from a big-picture perspective."
