Fans React to No.1 Alabama Being on Upset Alert Against Vanderbilt

The Alabama Crimson Tide were fortunate to escape with a win against fourth-ranked Georgia last week. However, they nearly surrendered a healthy double-digit lead over the Bulldogs in the first half. Which was a big reason that many fans were surprised they upheld their number one ranking heading into the sixth week of the college football season.

Alabama Struggling Against Unranked Vanderbilt

With Alabama still undefeated at 5-0, many expected their game against the Vanderbilt Commodores to be a layup. The perfect game to work out any kinks and get their confidence back. But it was quite the opposite for the Crimson Tide on Saturday. After Alabama quarterback Jaylen Milroe threw a pick-six in the first half, the Crimson Tide trailed 13-0 and went into the locker room at halftime 14-23. Of course fans went wild with their reactions.

"You got Alabama losing to Vandy, Georgia struggling against Auburn, and OSU struggling with Iowa. This 12-team playoff is going to something," one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Alabama is losing to Vanderbilt......The Nick Saban era is officially over," another fan added.

"Yo... LOL Alabama losing to Vandy by 2 scores in the 3rd right now is wild!" another fan said.

Nick Saban Takes Shot at Vandy

Vandy came into the matchup with a little added motivation courtesy of former Alabama head coach Nick Saban.  Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban had some harsh words for the program. Saban noted that despite playing in an elite college football conference like the SEC, winning in their stadium is not a difficult task.

"The only place you're going to play in the SEC that's not hard to play, Vanderbilt. When you play at Vanderbilt, you have more fans there than they have, and that's no disrespect to them, it's the truth," Saban said.

The Commodores and their fans appear to have taken Saban's words personally.
