Florida State Football is Down Bad After 0-2 Start

The jokes won't stop pouring in at the expense of Florida State football following their second straight loss to open the season at the hands of Boston College. The Seminoles showed very little fight against a heavy underdog as their playoff hopes appear to be hanging by a thread, if not buried, before the second week of September.

Florida State likely has to run the table to give themselves any case to make a 12-team playoff format, but that seems improbable now considering they have road games against No. 19 Miami and No. 7 Notre Dame still remaining, along with an Oct. 5 meeting with No. 14 Clemson.

Their loss on Monday may be what breaks the camel's back on their season. They went into the game picked to win by more than two scores at -16.5 favorites (the line previously was around -21 before their Week 0 loss) and instead, saw those odds do a complete 180 when the scoreboard went final. The Florida State football squad is just the third FBS team over the past 45 years to be favored by double-digits in its first two games and lose both games.

The biggest culprit for the Seminoles has to be quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei. The Oregon State transfer (who also transferred from Clemson) was anything but locked in on Monday, overthrowing his receivers in the endzone and giving Boston College free possessions. Where Uiagalelei really lacked was on third down, which should be something that he's adept at handling considering his experience. Going 3-14 simply won't cut it. Their running game also provided nothing for them, being outgained 263-21 on the ground.

This is also their second loss in the ACC following their Week 0 defeat to Georgia Tech, which only makes the 0-2 start that much worse. Talk about being down bad!

The Seminoles are just the fourth preseason AP Top-10 team to open a season 0-2 over the last 10 seasons. It's the second time that Florida State football has done so since 2017. It's also their third straight loss going back to last season's bowl game.

It may only be the first week of September, but it sure as seems as though Florida State's season is over before it ever really started.
