Kicker Conor McAneney remained in custody Thursday following his arrest in Fort Lauderdale, where he faces multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
According to police, the situation escalated early Wednesday morning.
McAneney was being escorted out of Señor Frog's bar around 2:30 a.m. when officers got involved. An arrest report states that he resisted attempts to detain him, allegedly grabbing an officer's arm and trying to pull him down. Police say the struggle intensified, with McAneney accused of punching the officer twice in the face.
Officers also noted he had been removed from multiple bars earlier in the night for causing disturbances.
He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before being booked into the Broward County Jail.
In court Thursday, a public defender said McAneney was in town for spring break and did not have his phone or wallet at the time of his arrest, leaving him unable to contact anyone.
The charges include two third-degree felonies, along with a trespassing count. Bond was set at $2,750.
McAneney, a transfer from Quincy University, joined Florida State in January and was expected to compete as a kickoff specialist this fall. He averaged more than 60 yards per kickoff last season.
Florida State has suspended him indefinitely from all team activities.
