Wilson was found inside a vehicle in the 1400 block of East Cromer Avenue after dispatchers received a shooting report at 2:59 a.m., Muncie Police Deputy Chief Melissa Criswell told The Star Press. He had been shot multiple times.

Wilson was a senior at Yorktown High School and a defensive end who committed to West Virginia in June. He was expected to graduate next year.

In a message to families Monday, Yorktown High School principal Stacey Brewer called Wilson "a valued member of our school, our football team, and our community." She said his family had given the school permission to share news of his death.

Brewer said Muncie police are leading the investigation and Yorktown police have confirmed there is no threat to students or schools. Counselors will be available when classes resume after fall break.

Police have not publicly identified a suspect or described the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Muncie Police Department's detective division at 765-747-4867.
