A former defensive back for the Purdue Boilermakers has been killed in a hail of gunfire on a busy New Jersey Street.

Michael Eargle, 28, was shot as three groups were fighting in Elizabeth, NJ., according to a report on NJ.com. There were no other details as police continue to investigate.
According to his Purdue football bio, Eargle was a 5-foot-10, 170 cornerback who was a three-star prospect coming out of high school. He started his college career at Lackawanna College before transferring to Purdue. In 2010, he played in seven games for the Boilermakers, including two starts, and made seven tackles.
