Four-star cornerback Eric Cuffee (6-foot-0, 188 pounds, Waco, TX) is one of the top defensive backs in the 2016 recruiting class, and on Thursday, he announced via Twitter his intentions to play at Texas by committing to the Longhorns.
Cuffee had recently taken two unofficial visits to Austin, so it is clear that he enjoyed the Longhorns already. Texas beat out in-state rivals Texas A&M, TCU, and Baylor for Cuffee's services.
It's hard to say that Texas and head coach Charlie Strong "desperately" needed this commitment, but the Longhorns are lagging way behind where they usually do in recruiting rankings. With 14 commitments so far for the 2016 recruiting cycle, Texas just ranks 34th in the nation over at 247Sports. That's a far cry from where they usually sit in these rankings, which is usually loftily in the Top 10.
