On Monday, Notre Dame initially got good news when four-star cornerback Kalon Gervin announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish. However, things got even better when four-star safety Derrik Allen (6-foot-1, 205 pounds, Lassiter, Ga.) followed that up with a commitment of his own.

Allen is the the No. 5 safety in the nation per the 247Sports Composite, and he is the eight commitment for Notre Dame's 2018 class. He is the second highest-rated recruit for Notre Dame, and they now have the No. 2 class in the nation behind Penn State.
Allen will present some interesting versatility for Notre Dame, as he could play multiple positions on defense thanks to his combination of size and athleticism. He is a big get for Notre Dame, and a big loss for the schools in the southeast that missed out on him.
