FSU's 5-star, top 2016 QB commit leaves IMG Academy, maturity issues cited in report

Malik Henry is one of the nation's top quarterback recruits — a 5-star and third-ranked QB on 247Sports — and the top quarterback commit for the Florida State Seminoles' 2016 class, but his future for his senior season of high school is now up in the air.

Henry transferred to Bradenton, Florida's IMG Academy for his senior season, but today it was announced he would be transferring out of IMG Academy prior to taking his first snap.

"We have made a decision and Malik Henry will not be returning to IMG Academy next year," said IMG Academy head coach Kevin Wright. "Malik is a very talented athlete and we wish him the very best in his future."

They did not release an official reason for Henry's departure, but there have been some different reports on why. The Palm Beach Post's Florida State reporter Tom D'Angelo said maturity issues were one reason for his departure.

Another reason for his departure floated out by Tomahawk Nation was coach — and former FSU star — Chris Weinke leaving IMG Academy to join the St. Louis Rams and Henry clashing with the new coaching staff. Whatever the reason for his leaving IMG Academy, Henry is likely headed back to California to complete his senior season.

Henry has drawn comparisons to Jameis Winston as a quarterback by some, but the questions about maturity certainly aren't the types of comparisons to Winston Seminoles fans want to hear. While Henry's departure from IMG Academy isn't expected to bring any change to his commitment to Florida State, it will keep him from developing at a program that has produced a number of future FSU players — and has a current commits and targets on the roster.
