History shows the college football world should be on notice of Urban Meyer and Ohio State this season

This stat bodes well for Ohio State and Urban Meyer.

Ohio State's 31-0 loss to Clemson in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff marked only the third time Urban Meyer has lost a bowl game in his coaching career.

Meyer is now 10-3 in bowl games, and the previous two times his team lost a bowl game, he won a national championship the following year.

In 2007, Meyer's Florida Gators lost to Michigan 41-35 in the Capital One Bowl. The next season, Florida defeated Oklahoma 24-14  in the national title game.

In 2013 during his second year at Ohio State, the Buckeyes lost to Clemson 40-35 in the Orange Bowl. The next season, Ohio State beat Oregon 35-21 in the national championship game.

So, if history is an indicator, the Buckeyes' embarrassing loss in the Fiesta Bowl to Clemson could be a promising sign for next season for Urban Meyer. The Buckeyes also brought in the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, and they return 15 starters next season.
