Houston security guard threw haymakers at field stormers, and now he's in trouble

UPDATE: The security guard from the above incident has been indicted on misdemeanor assault charges, according to the Houston Press.

The guard, named Derrick Hicks, was working security during the American Athletic Conference championship game when the incident happened. Houston won the game — which it was hosting — and the fans started to storm the field. This is when Hicks sprung into action, but not in the way you would hope for out of a security. Instead of maybe trying to tackle a rouge fan, Hicks picked one of the thousands rushing the field and started throwing some serious punches.

According to the Press, Hicks is not the only one that could be facing charges, as the Harris Count district attorney in Texas is apparently still investigating, but Hicks in the only one to be indicted so far.

Original story is below

Houston won the American Athletic Conference championship game against Temple 24-13 and some fans got excited and got onto the field. One security guard took his job very seriously though as he threw some haymakers at one poor fan who tried to get on the field. The crowd was clearly not happy with that and let the guard know it.

That wasn't the only guard who was feeling himself today though. One guy went for the supreme suplex and absolutely laid a fan out. That is not what I would call security guarding, and it got the Jim Ross treatment to boot.

The University of Houston has since released a statement on the incident, stating that they will likely take action with the contract company responsible for security at the event.
