Hugh Freeze has shockingly resigned as head coach of Ole Miss

Whoa.

UPDATE: It would appear that it wasn't just Freeze's coaches who were breaking rules as it might have been him as well.

Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss have not had the best seasons the last couple of years going a combined 15-10 including a 5-7 record this past season. They've also been involved in an NCAA investigation that has basically said the school lacks institutional control. And  now it looks like Freeze has taken preemptive action ahead of possible NCAA sanctions and become the sacrificial lamb:

Yahoo!'s Pat Forde originally reported that Freeze could soon lose his job, but we didn't think it would be this soon:

Freeze is likely trying to help the school out by resigning on his own so that the NCAA doesn't punish them worse than what it looks like they might do. They are facing serious sanctions that would set them back years if not almost a decade. Postseason bans might be coming as well as reduced recruiting classes and other limitations.
