Sen. Cruz, who represents Texas, started the wager with a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. He asked Vance if he wanted to make a wager based on the outcome of the Ohio State-Texas game.

"Loser brings beer & food from his home state & delivers it wearing the winning jersey," Cruz asked in his post.

Vice President-elect Vance quickly responded with a post of his own. He asked, "Which Texas ice cream should I have Ted bring when the Buckeyes win?" Vance then confirmed that he was all in on this wager.

The two politicians have an appreciation for each team based on their respective backgrounds and careers. Cruz attended junior high and high school in Texas. He was appointed Solicitor General of Texas in 2003. He remained in this position until 2008. Cruz then was elected to the United States Senate in 2012 after winning his election in Texas.

Vance, for comparison, was born and raised in Ohio. He attended Ohio State University before heading to Yale Law School. His early political career was in Kentucky, but he ran for the United States Senate in Ohio in 2022. He defeated Tim Ryan.

The Cotton Bowl matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns marks the third round of the college football playoffs. The winner of this game will move on to the national championship game on Jan. 20.

Texas reached the Semifinals on the strength of two playoff wins. The Longhorns defeated the Clemson Tigers in the first round of the playoffs. They then beat the No. 4 seed Arizona State Sun Devils in the Quarterfinals.

Ohio State kicked off the playoffs with a first-round victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. The Buckeyes then beat the top-seeded Oregon Ducks in the Quarterfinals.

The Buckeyes and Longhorns will now face off with an opportunity to reach the national championship game. The winner will face either Penn State or Notre Dame, the two teams competing in the Orange Bowl.
