Joel Klatt thinks this man, not Tom Herman, is the best coaching candidate available

This is out of left field.

Joel Klatt might want to reconsider this one.

In an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Klatt made a bold comment by saying that he would take Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano over Houston head coach Tom Herman in terms of potential coaching candidates.

"I'd take Greg Schiano over Tom Herman," Klatt said. "I'd take him over Brian Kelly."

Herman is often considered the hottest candidate for high-profile head coaching jobs after the season. Those jobs could include LSU, Texas, Oregon, USC, and Notre Dame, which would definitely be quite the smorgasbord of coaching positions to choose from.

Taking Schiano over Herman? That decision might be short-sighted by Klatt. Klatt joked that Herman has had success "for like 32 seconds" at Houston, which kind of conveniently leaves out that Herman was previously a very successful offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

"If I'm looking next year for a head coach, I'm looking at Greg Schiano," Klatt said earlier in the day on Undisputed. "What he's done at Rutgers, some NFL tenure, and now as an assistant Ohio State has been remarkable."

Is... is that a joke? Schiano was very good at Rutgers, completely turning that program around between 2005 and 2011. However, Schiano's tenure in the NFL was a disaster, not "remarkable"; there's a reason he was out of coaching for two years after Tampa Bay fired him.

As for Schiano's tenure at Ohio State, doesn't the "like 32 seconds" joke apply more here? Schiano has literally been Ohio State defensive coordinator for five games.

Maybe we should wait before crowning Schiano as the savior for any college football program.
