A sleeper could be emerging for No. 1 overall recruit Justin Fields

"...They have a great quarterback history..."

When five-star, No. 1 ranked dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields decommitted from Penn State, he immediately had a long list of teams aiming to convince him to join their school.

Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Auburn are among the favorites for Fields, but he recently visited USC before the Elite 11 finals in June, and he could be returning for another visit soon.

According to 247Sports, USC is the "sleeper" to land Fields. USC is in need of a quarterback for the Class of 2018 after Matt Corral decommitted, and Sam Darnold is most likely entering the NFL Draft after the 2017 season.

Fields, the nation's No. 1 prospect according to 247Sports, said he talks to USC coach Clay Helton "from time to time," and Fields is among the top targets for USC and Helton.

"USC, they have a great quarterback history and I think they run a great offense and they've been doing great things with Sam," Fields said.

The Kennesaw, Georgia product said distance won't be much of a factor in his decision.

"My decision is going to come down to the school that best fits me and what my family thinks of the education there and how I fit in with the coaches and players," Fields said.

Fields has visits planned for Georgia and Auburn, and he has visited those two schools plus Florida and Florida State since decommitting from Penn State.

Fields is 6'3, 221 pounds, and 247Sports lists him as the No. 4 overall player in the country.
