Lane Kiffin is expected to become either a head coach or move to another school as the offensive coordinator very soon. Reports were pointing to FAU as a head coaching opportunity for Kiffin and apparently he was incredibly close to nailing down a deal with the school.

However, the deal with the university apparently fell through:

On Saturday morning's College GameDay, Kirk Herbstreit said that Kiffin and FAU (although he did not name the school specifically) were deep in talks and it was close to getting done. He details a little of what happened:
"He was close to having a deal done with a school yesterday, and late last night the negotiations broke off as of right now. So he's back in play. How it will work out, we'll find out probably here in the next day or two. For a guy who wanted an opportunity to become a head coach, it was right there in front of him. And now you've got to think about whether he's the offensive coordinator at LSU or if he ends up finding a different head-coaching job. ... Now he's going to have to kind of look in the mirror and see where he wants to go from here. There are opportunities out there, but he's got to figure out what he wants to do."
Houston passed over Kiffin, who was believed to be the favorite for the job, in order to promote offensive coordinator Major Applewhite. Kiffin could still get a deal done with FAU, but this "stumbling block" sure doesn't bode well going forward.
