Lou Holtz Blames Secret Service In Trump Assassination Attempt

Lou Holtz, the highly esteemed former Notre Dame coach and college football TV analyst, was asked about his thoughts on Donald Trump getting shot at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Holtz said, "How in the h*** did that happen?"

"There had to be some kind of [Secret Service] mistake... Consider this, he was shot and only by the Grace of God was he not killed, but do you know what kind of screw up happened? Whose running this asylum?!" Holtz continued.

The 87-year-old former coach is evidently referring to the law enforcement and secret servicemen who he thought were lacking, since they allowed shots to get fired from 20-year-old Thomas Crooks, who grazed the former president's ear from shooting a rifle.

Holtz also went on to criticize the media, citing that they can't be trusted anymore.

"You can't trust the media. Everyone has their own agenda and they try to push it. I don't worry about being politically correct, I just worry about being correct and that's far more important along the line, but I don't think we seem to feel that way anymore."

When talking about his political views, Holtz noted what he looks for in politicians.

"Number one, can I trust you? Do you mean what you say and are you being honest about it?" Holtz said. "The second is that they have to be totally committed to excellence, they want to make this country great, they want to give me the opportunity to be good."

If anyone demonstrated what it means to be committed to excellence as a football coach, it was Lou Holtz, who had a career 249-132-7 record and is the only one to ever lead six college programs to bowl games. Notably, Holtz went 12-0 and led the Notre Dame fighting Irish to a national championship during the 1988 season.
