Miami's Carson Beck after upset win over Ohio State: 'Man, I was blacked out'

Sometimes the best quarterbacking comes when there is not much thinking involved.

Carson Beck offered a candid explanation after leading the Miami Hurricanes to a 24-14 College Football Playoff win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Wednesday night at AT&T Stadium.

Miami sealed the game late with an interception of Julian Sayin, capping a tense and physical contest that never turned into an offensive showcase. Beck, in his first season with the Hurricanes after transferring from Georgia, finished 19-of-26 passing for 138 yards and a touchdown. He added 23 rushing yards, doing just enough to push Miami through.

After the game, Beck was asked what was going through his mind on a critical third and four conversion that helped lock up the win.

"Shoot, I was blacked out," Beck said. "Man, I was blacked out. I was out there just playing the game I love."

It was an honest answer and one that drew some laughs, especially given the mental demands of the position. But it also made sense. Big moments have a way of punishing overthinking, and Beck played loose when it mattered most.

For Miami, that was enough. A calm quarterback, a timely defense, and a win that sends the Hurricanes deeper into the playoff.
