Miami's Mark Fletcher under fire for postgame punch of Indiana defensive lineman

The final whistle didn't quite end it. Moments after the College Football Playoff National Championship wrapped with Indiana Hoosiers completing a 27-21 win over the Miami Hurricanes, emotions boiled over on the field at Hard Rock Stadium.

Miami running back Mark Fletcher was seen throwing punches at Indiana defensive lineman Tyrique Tucker in the immediate aftermath of the game. Fletcher, listed at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, appeared ready to continue the confrontation before a staffer stepped in and separated the two. Tucker outweighs him by nearly 80 pounds.

What sparked the incident was not immediately clear. What was clear was the frustration. Miami had pushed Indiana for four quarters, but never found a way to take the lead as the Hoosiers closed out one of the most improbable championship runs in college football history.

For Fletcher, the moment was especially bitter. The South Florida native delivered one of the best performances of his career on the sport's biggest stage. He rushed for 112 yards on 17 carries, scored twice and added a reception for eight yards. His 57-yard touchdown run in the third quarter pushed him past Ezekiel Elliott for the most career rushing yards in CFP history.

Fletcher finished the playoff with 507 rushing yards across four games. It was a historic postseason that ended with a title just out of reach.

Indiana celebrated. Miami stewed.

Fletcher will be back with the Hurricanes next season. It is safe to say this night will linger with him for a while.
