Michael Vick is officially stepping into the world of coaching. The former NFL star quarterback has agreed to terms to become the next head football coach at Norfolk State, as first reported by David Teel of The Virginian-Pilot.

Vick, 44, is expected to be introduced at a press conference within the next week. According to Teel, Vick has already begun assembling a staff, reaching out to familiar faces to join him as assistant coaches and support personnel.
Vick, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, enjoyed a remarkable career that spanned 13 seasons and earned him four Pro Bowl selections.
Though Vick has never held a head coaching position, he brings coaching experience to the table. In 2017, he served as a coaching intern with the Kansas City Chiefs under Andy Reid, and in 2018, he was hired as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football (AAF).
Norfolk State, a Division I school in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), recently parted ways with head coach Dawson Odums following a disappointing 4-8 season in 2024.
Vick confirmed earlier this week that he was in talks with Norfolk State, but it was later revealed that another school was also targeting him as a head coach. Ultimately, Vick chose to return to his roots in Virginia, where he grew up in Newport News, and take on the challenge of leading the Spartans.
While Vick's coaching career is just beginning, his extensive football background and leadership experience could make him an intriguing hire for a program looking to build momentum. He'll now look to carve out a new legacy as a head coach, far removed from his dynamic playing days.
