At this point, Dylan McCaffrey is (still) best known as the younger brother of Stanford running back and Heisman Trophy candidate Christian McCaffrey. However, the 2017 prospect is known to Michigan fans as a bright beacon of hope for the future, and McCaffrey received a significant honor earlier this week.
Jim Halley of USA Today selected the 2016 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Football Team and, while it wasn't a typical All-American squad in that 24 players were chosen, McCaffrey was included on the squad. The 6-foot-5, 196-pound quarterback from Littleton, Colo. committed to Michigan in February and he is considered by most services as one of the top 50 prospects in the country.
In his junior season at Valor Christian, McCaffrey threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns while also adding 13 touchdowns on the ground, and his combination of arm talent and athleticism is highly appealing for the Wolverines. Michigan did pick up a highly touted quarterback in the 2016 class with Brandon Peters, but there will be plenty of room for both signal-callers on the depth chart moving forward under Jim Harbaugh's tutelage.
It is likely that Dylan McCaffrey will receive much recognition and many awards in the coming days, but you can bet that Harbaugh and his staff will have a close eye on their prized quarterback prospect and his development before touching down in Ann Arbor next season.
