Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith suffered one of the worst injuries of college football in 2016. Smith tore his ACL and LCL in Notre Dame's Fiesta Bowl loss to Ohio State, and the injury is bad enough that he may have nerve damage that could affect his potential NFL career.
Well, there is some good news about his recovery: apparently Smith is back up to leg pressing over 600 pounds.
"Rehab is going great," Smith said in an interview with Yahoo Sports. "I am leg-pressing over 600 pounds right now. I am squatting over 400 pounds. I am getting that strength back. It's just a matter of time."
While Smith did not really give a response about his potential nerve damage issues, it is good news that he seems optimistic about his recovery. Smith had been touted as a sure-fire first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft before his injury, but now there is a lot of skepticism about where he will be drafted come April 28. It is still unknown if Smith will even play in 2016, and that leaves a lot of teams questioning whether he will come back as the same player that he was before the injury.
Hopefully Smith will recover properly, and this injury will just be a blip on what is otherwise a healthy football career.
