Notre Dame rewards Brian Kelly with a contract extension

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had a tough job in the 2015 season. Despite his team suffering a myriad of injuries at key positions, the Fighting Irish stayed afloat, leading to a 10-3 record on the season. On Friday, Notre Dame rewarded Kelly for his efforts, giving him a new six-year contract.

Kelly is 55-23 in six seasons so far with Notre Dame, a marked improvement over the previous era of Tyrone Willingham and Charlie Weis. Kelly also led Notre Dame to a berth in the 2013 BCS championship game, but lost in a 42-14 blowout at the hands of Alabama.

Obviously the legacy of Notre Dame football is titles and greatness, and while Kelly has yet to win a title with the Fighting Irish, he has certainly put the school in its best position in almost two decades. With all of the injured players of 2015 scheduled to return in 2016, Notre Dame is in prime position to take the college football world by storm next year if things are able to go their way.
