According to the Oklahoman, a warrant was issued for Sunderland's arrest last week.
The charges come after Sunderland allegedly sold two stolen gaming systems to a retail store in Oklahoma City for $499.50. Per the Oklahoman, the systems were reported stolen from an Oklahoma University resident hall back on March 15, and Sunderland reportedly sold them later in the day.
Sunderland has not been charged with stealing the gaming systems.
Sunderland, a former four-star recruit of the 2015 class, appeared in eight games for Oklahoma last season. He recorded 15 total tackles (1.0 TFL) and an interception, and he was competing for a starting job this season after the departure of senior safety Ahmad Thomas.
The Sunderland suspension comes in the wake of the Baker Mayfield controversy, as the team's starting quarterback will not be suspended following his guilty plea in an alcohol-related arrest earlier this year. Mayfield will owe $480 in fines and $483.20 in restitution, and will under 35 hours of University-mandated community service after pleading guilty to public intoxication, disorderly conduct and fleeing. An earlier resisting arrest charge was dropped in Mayfield's plea agreement.
