Embattled SEC squad lands its fifth commitment over the past two weeks

Finally, some good news.

Hugh Freeze and the Ole Miss Rebels remain clouded in scandal following an NCAA finding of 30 overall violations — including lack of institutional control — with 13 of them tied to the football team.

but, if nothing else, the program is not slowing down in the slightest when it comes to recruiting top-flight college football prospects. On Wednesday, 2018 defensive lineman Allen Love (in coordination with AL.com) posted a video that announced his college commitment and the Rebels were the beneficiary of his pledge.

Love is not necessarily a top-flight pickup for an SEC program, as he ranks as only a three-star prospect according to 247Sports while falling outside of the top 50 defensive tackles in the Class of 2018. However, this is more of a quantity play for Ole Miss, as Love's commitment is now the fifth such addition over only a two-week period.

Considering that quintet of players now brings the Rebels' complete 2018 class to only seven prospects overall, it is hard to overstate the importance of adding volume at this point in the process. Even with months and months before the 2018 class must be full, Ole Miss being able to pick up talented players like the 6'3, 285-pound Love is a very important thing for the state of the program on the whole. Obviously, the off-field issues are the lead story in Oxford right now (and with good reason) but the show must go on and the coaching staff is adding a lot of talent right now.
