Kevin Sumlin and Butch Jones were supposed to be the chosen ones this season! The Texas A&M and Tennessee coaches were supposed to finally break through and knock off some teams from their division to perhaps crash the College Football Playoff.

However, Tennessee failed to win a weak SEC East and finished 8-4 (4-4) with embarrassing losses to South Carolina and Vanderbilt to boot. Meanwhile, Sumlin's team started off hot again with a six-game winning streak, but got dismantled by Alabama and had inexcusable losses to both Mississippi schools back-to-back. That coupled with a loss to LSU to end the season surely has fans a little salty.
Both coaches will enter the offseason on the hot seat according to Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples. Both also have their teams bowl-eligible so if they win those games then there's a chance that the seat could cool off a bit. However, Jones' overall record is now 29-21 in four years while Sumlin owns a 21-19 record in conference play during his time in College Station.
