One team could be without dozens of players and coaches on Saturday

A 1-6 team got some even worse news this week.

Thankfully for the NCAA, this isn't like the Charleston Southern, but for the players and coaches... they might prefer that scenario over this one.

According to FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman, Rice has had 28 players and 11 coaches miss practice this week due to a stomach illness that has devastated the team.

That... that sounds just awful.

There doesn't appear to be a tally yet on how many Rice players could actually miss the game, but if the illness has gone around like this, then you have to figure that some guys will be out of action. Even the players that are no longer being affected by the illness could still be dealing with the effects of things like weight loss and dehydration that could certainly affect them if they try to play.

Rice plays Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
