Caleb Williams Called 'Soft' by Retired Star NFL Player

The USC Trojans lost their third football game of the season to the Washington Huskies 52-42, but the main talking point of this Week 10 game involves Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams hopping into the stands and crying into his mother's arms following the loss.

Williams' actions have drawn differing viewpoints, of course, with the two headline opinions coming from ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III and former NFL star Robert Mathis.

"Watching Caleb Williams sobbing with his family after losing the game will BREAK YOUR HEART," said Griffin, also known as RG3. "This young man pours his heart out for his team EVERY TIME he plays. Any NFL team would be lucky to have him as their QB and this emotion shows how much this game means to him."

While RG3 supported the top prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft, Mathis — formerly a defensive end and linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts — had an opposite opinion.

"Sorry @RGIII (all love lil bro) but I gotta chalk this one up in the soft category," Mathis said. "He ran and jumped in stance to his mommy and cried. I always tell players 'I'll never lie to em' and this is not the look you want from your trigger man."

Williams did everything he could to help his team win, completing 27 of 35 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns. But once again, the Trojans' defense — which allows 34.5 points per game (117th in the country) — couldn't stop anything.
This season, Williams has completed 217 passes on 316 attempts (a 68.7% completion rate). He's had 365 drop-backs.
He's thrown for 2,972 yards (9.4 yards per attempt), 28 touchdowns and four interceptions. Williams has had some luck, though, with 16 turnover-worthy plays.
To round out the year, Williams will have a chance to get some big wins over the Oregon Ducks on the road and UCLA.
