Buffs Beat first reported the move, citing Thomas, a defensive lineman, who was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.
Last season, Thomas played in nine games. He played 53 run defense snaps and 64 pass rushing snaps. He had two total pressures, including one hit and one hurry. Thomas also added four tackles and a fumble recovery.
The newest addition to the Big 12, the Buffaloes, never announced that Thomas was suspended. However, a credit in the Amazon docuseries "Coach Prime" stated he was suspended. His status was "still being evaluated."
Before his dismissal, Thomas wasn't present at any offseason conditioning drills. Sanders also brought in two new defensive linemen, including LSU's Quency Wiggins and Pittsburgh's Samuel Okunlola, via the transfer portal.
As mentioned, the Buffaloes finished 4-8 last season. However, they started 3-0 after defeating the defending National Champion runner-up TCU Horned Frogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Colorado State Rams. They went 1-8 from there, only beating the Arizona State Sun Devils on the road.
Starting quarterback and Coach Prime's son, Shedeur Sanders missed the season's final game against the Utah Utes due to several injuries. He was pressured and sacked approximately 200 and 50 times, respectively.
The Buffaloes spring game takes place on April 27, with an entire weekend of events planned, including musical performances and more.
Heading into 2024, the Buffaloes, with an overhauled offensive line, new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, and more, hope to improve on their 2023 mark as they venture into the Big 12.
