Deion Sanders Brings Unorthodox Training To Colorado Workouts

The Colorado Buffaloes went 4-8 in their first season with Deion Sanders as head coach, and following their 1-8 stretch over their final nine games, Sanders has the team working out with a group of Marines.

A video of them at practice with the Buffaloes can be found on YouTube, including drills of lines of players doing pushups with their legs resting on the player behind them. The players are seen several times dripping in sweat, on one knee taking direction, planking, fireman carries, and much more. Throughout the video, you can see them motivating the players while also demanding the execution of the drill.

This isn't the first time a college program has brought a military unit to assist with offseason activities. Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell was brought in SEAL Team 6 operator D.J. Shipley to speak to the players. No, it wasn't physical training, but their words likely resonated with them.

As mentioned, Sanders was in his first season as the head coach for the Buffaloes last season. They started the year 3-0, defeating the TCU Horned Frogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Colorado State Rams. From there, they won just one game, beating Arizona State. They lost eight games to high-level Pac-12 opponents but will now join the Big 12.

Sanders' son, Shedeur Sanders, finished the year with 3,229 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, three interceptions, 379 rushing yards, and four interceptions. He missed the last game of the season due to injury.

According to Pro Football Focus, Sanders was sacked 49 times and pressured 194 times. The offensive line has undergone a massive overhaul, including five-star prospect Jordan Seaton, Indiana transfer Kahlil Benson, and UTP trainer Justin Mayers.

We'll see if this Marines training helps them prepare for a far better season in the 2024-25 season in the second season under Coach Prime.
