Deion Sanders Admits He's Looking for an Older Quarterback

It's no secret that the Colorado Buffaloes' starting quarterback is head coach Deion Sanders' son, Shedeur Sanders. And while he announced his son will be back under center in 2024, Coach Prime admitted that he's looking to add some depth at the position via the transfer portal.

This past season, Sanders started all but the season's final game due to injury. He was the most-sacked quarterback in college football, but he is on pace to return in the spring after suffering an arm/ankle injury and back fracture.

"Right now, we're looking for older quarterbacks, because we plan on winning," Sanders said. "So if something were to happen to Shedeur, they could step right in and make it happen. That's what we're looking for. "

The transfer portal opened this past Monday, and coach Sanders is looking for additional signal-callers from it.

"We've already mapped out what we need in each position way before the season concluded," Sanders said. "So we already knew and know what we're looking for. So we're right on pace to go find what we're looking for, and we know where it is."

Of course, the Buffaloes' season didn't go how they wanted or as many expected, after they started 3-0 and finished 4-8. But Shedeur broke some records, including with 3,230 passing yards. He added 27 touchdowns and completed just over 69% of his passes. But he also was sacked 52 times, which led the country.

Several quarterbacks are in the transfer portal including Tyler Buchner, Gerry Bohanon, AJ Duffy, Mason Garcia and many others.

In addition to quarterback, the Buffaloes will likely look to add offensive line depth, too.

We'll see whom the Buffaloes add to the roster to build off their 4-8 season, and if a transfer quarterback could potentially compete with Sanders this offseason.
