Deion Sanders Sounds off on Shedeur's Recent Struggles

The Colorado Buffaloes improved to 4-2 after defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils on the road, but quarterback Shedeur Sanders did struggle a bit. And his head coach and father, Deion Sanders, was open about his frustration regarding the amount of pressure he's facing from opposing defenses.

"He's mad. He's upset with the way this looks. He's upset with the way it's going. He's upset with hit after hit after hit. You think he's happy, being the most sacked guy in college football? He's still doing what he's capable of doing. He's sick of it," coach Sanders said.

Losing 24-17, the Sun Devils scored a touchdown to tie the game 24-24 with 50 seconds left after quarterback Trenton Bourguet hit Troy Omeire for a 15-yard score.

Instead of heading to overtime, the Buffaloes and quarterback Sanders undertook a game-winning drive that consisted of the following plays:

  • Sanders completed a 43-yard pass to Javon Antonio for 43 yards, bringing them to the Arizona State 32-yard line.
  • Sanders completed another pass to Antonio for seven yards, with the Buffaloes now at the Sun Devils' 25-yard line.
  • Incomplete pass.
  • Sanders completed a pass to Michael Harrison for no gain.
  • Then, on fourth and 3, Buffaloes kicker Alejandro Mata hit a 43-yard field goal to win the game.

Sanders finished the day completing 26 of 43 pass attempts (60.5%) for 239 yards and one passing touchdown, and added 31 rushing yards and a score.

The pressure on Sanders is real. He's been pressured on 36.5% of his drop-backs. He's completing 53.4% of his passes on those plays for 590 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. As Coach Prime said, Shedeur has been sacked 30 times, which leads the nation.

"Every drive is key. He always does this," Sanders continued. "You see it every week, this ain't new for him. You've seen this every week. We've seen him do this every week. It's like we wait for him to put on his cape and do what he does. That's what he does every week. You guys should be accustomed to it by now."

The Buffaloes will play on Friday, Oct. 13, at 10 p.m. ET at home against the Stanford Cardinal.
