There have been several rumors that former Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich might take over as offensive coordinator at Auburn after Rhett Lashlee left to take the same position at UConn. Their offenses are fairly similar and it's not a far reach for Helfrich to move down a little bit in position to do it at the SEC level.

However, AL.com's James Crepea reports that Helfrich may not be going to Auburn. Citing a source, the report says that Helfrich would be "highly unlikely" to accept Auburn's offensive coordinator position if it were offered. The main reason is that he is waiting on a head coaching job.

It's a bit curious as to why he would want to wait on a head coaching job as there really aren't any openings right now. If he were to get back into coaching in some capacity then he could at least prove himself worthy of another head coaching job when one does eventually open up next season.
Helfrich was 37-16 as head coach for Oregon, and he's owed a buyout of $11.6 million over the next three years.
