Former Alabama receivers coach Billy Napier had been working in Tuscaloosa since 2011, but took the offensive coordinator job at Arizona State this offseason when he was seemingly passed over for the same position at Alabama. It would have made sense for him to ascend to the position under Nick Saban since he was the longest tenured offensive coach and probably should have taken over for Lane Kiffin after he took the FAU head coaching job.

According to a report from CBS's Dennis Dodd, Napier being passed over at Alabama is being used in a constructive way for the Sun Devils, per his new boss. ASU head coach Todd Graham says things didn't exactly end the way Napier planned in Tuscaloosa.
"I think Billy was pissed because he was passed over [at Alabama for Steve] Sarkisian and all that," Graham said.
Sarkisian was given the OC position over Napier despite only being an analyst for the team in 2016. However, his pedigree at Washington and USC was apparently enough to give him the job over Napier.
