Former Texas A&M Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin is reportedly the new head coach of the Arizona Wildcats.
According to a tweet Sunday from Gil Brandt, the Wildcats will hire former Sumlin.
Sumlin, who was once considered one of the hottest names in college football, was chased away from Texas A&M after the Aggies believed they could do better without him. Maybe they will do just that, as A&M replaced Sumlin with national champion coach Jimbo Fisher.
Sumlin went 51-26 in six seasons at Texas A&M and 35-17 in four seasons before that at Houston.
He rode the Johnny Manziel momentum to relative national stardom.
This report only comes hours after Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo took his name out of hat.
Speculation that Niumatalolo is in the running for the job has grown considerably after he was unexpectedly absent from Navy's team facility on Friday. Niumatalolo has guided Navy to an 84-47 record over his 10 seasons as head coach and bowl appearances in nine of those seasons.
Maybe the Midshipmen coach taking his name out of the hat forced Arizona's hand, but this would likely be considered a better hire — even if only in the land of perception.
The position at Arizona opened up after Rich Rodriguez was fired over allegations of workplace misconduct by a former administrative assistant. The school was unable to prove those claims, but still opted to fire Rodriguez because the university was "concerned with the direction and climate of the football program" as a result of those claims.
