"I've been playing in California my whole life," Griffin said. "My family has been coming out to see me play. I think it'd be big for my family to come see me play, for my grandpa to come see me play."
Griffin, a former UCLA commit, chose the Trojans over Tennessee, Alabama and Oregon.
"From the start, I was always in love with USC," Griffin said. "After talking to Coach Helton and the coaching staff I fell in love and made my decision."
The U.S. Army All-American ranks as the No. 3 cornerback, No. 3 player from the state of California and No. 28 overall prospect for the 2018 national recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Griffin, who is the son of legendary rapper Warren G, told ESPN that he intends to continue making his own legacy at Southern Cal.
"The challenges are real tough, but at the end of the day I worked hard," Griffin said. "I tried so hard to make a name for myself and once I did, I felt so good and relieved.
USC currently ranks No. 9 overall in the 247Sports Composite Team rankings, which is the highest among Pac-12 teams.
