Former USC QB believes Tennessee fans ‘should be happy’ team didn’t hire former player

Ouch.

Former USC quarterback Sean Salisbury was critical of Trojans offensive coordinator Tee Martin during Friday's Cotton Bowl loss to Ohio State.

In fact, Salisbury believes that Tennessee, who Martin led to a BCS national championship as a quarterback in 1998, was fortunate to pass on the assistant during its recent head coaching search.

Salisbury would later respond to fans regarding his criticism of Martin's coaching.

Salisbury clarified his critique when asked about the USC assistant that was hired by Tennessee, new offensive coordinator Tyson Helton and added that he will be rooting for him to succeed in Knoxville.

Salisbury also defended Tennessee fans when discussing the national media's perception of the botched  hire of Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano and subsequent protest in November.

Ohio State defeated USC, 24-7, during Friday's bowl game.
