Former Tennessee and NFL head coaching candidate now reportedly finalizing new deal

That seems good.

It's been a weird offseason for Tee Martin. The former Tennessee quarterback and national championship winner has been linked to a number of different job openings and, through it all, Martin has held his position as the offensive coordinator under Clay Helton for the USC Trojans.

Earlier in the process, Martin was famously considered to be a "serious candidate" for a job on Jon Gruden's staff with the Oakland Raiders but, at the end of the day, reports indicate that he will be staying put in Los Angeles.

It is somewhat unclear as to just how serious Martin's flirtation with the Tennessee opening was but, at the very least, he was prominently mentioned. While not everyone would have been overjoyed with a homecoming in that particular role, Martin is a respected name for his performance at the college level and he has been comfortable as USC's offensive coordinator over the past two seasons.

In the future, Martin could certainly rise to the level of a head coach, especially if he is able to mold the next USC quarterback (in the post-Sam Darnold era) in leading the Trojans to success. Until then, though, he appears to be hanging around in his current post.
