Friday night wasn't kind to teams in the AP Top 10.
Following No. 2 Clemson losing 27-24 at Syracuse earlier in the night, the upset bug also caught up to No. 8 Washington State, as the previously undefeated Cougars were easily handled 37-3 by a 3-3 Cal team on Friday.
Washington State was a 17-point favorite at the start of the game. Per ESPN's broadcast, this was only Cal's second win against a Top 10 team since 1978. (2-52-1)
Washington State's offense had been one of the best in the nation, but they looked like a JV squad against Cal's defense on Friday. Cal forced five turnovers and had eight sacks in the first three quarters alone, amassing a 20-3 lead.
Cal then drove the dagger in Washington State's heart with this incredible front-flipping touchdown from Cal quarterback Ross Bowers to make it 27-3 right at the start of the fourth quarter.
Cal added on another field goal and touchdown later in the fourth, and wound up with a total seven forced turnovers for the game. Washington State quarterback Luke Falk — a Heisman candidate heading into this game — was responsible for six of those turnovers in what was likely the worst game of his career.
Washington State's loss comes just two weeks after they pulled off their own Friday night upset; the Cougs defeated then No. 5 USC 30-27 in Pullman back on Sept. 29.
With the loss, the Washington Huskies are now the only undefeated team in the Pac-12.
