The Florida State Seminoles were able to lure their No. 1 target to Tallahassee in the aftermath of the Jimbo Fisher defection to Texas A&M and, given what has transpired elsewhere during the coaching carousel, the 'Noles should be roundly praised for that. On the flip side, Oregon does lose a fantastic coach in Willie Taggart, though, and it appears the decision was not an easy one for the new head man in Tallahassee.
Andrea Adelson of ESPN described Taggart as "visibly emotional" and passed along this anecdote he presented at an introductory press conference.
"My 16-year-old son came in and out of nowhere he said, 'Dad, I know you're struggling with this decision and I know it's your dream job. You always tell me to chase my dreams and don't let anyone get in the way of it. I don't think it's right for me or anyone else to stop you from chasing your dreams. If you're going to chase your dream, I'm going to ride with you."
Beyond that, Taggart also indicated that it is unwise to wait for anything approaching the perfect time to vacate a job in search of another.
Oregon fans won't love any explanation but it seems clear that Taggart simply found an opening he couldn't refuse. Now, the focus will shift toward how he handles the transition and, ultimately, what the Florida State program resembles in the future.
