The College Football Playoff selection committee is always under the microscope and, while a place inside the group would be an impressive accomplishment, it comes with real responsibility. To that end, the members rotate and, on Feb. 1, there will be a big change on the committee.

At the top, Texas Tech AD Kirby Hocutt will be moving away as the chairperson and he will be replaced by Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens.
In the formal press release, Executive Director Bill Hancock said the following about the move to tab Mullens:
"We are delighted that Rob will be stepping into this role. He is an experienced committee member, extremely passionate about college football, detail-oriented and brings a high level of energy that is perfectly suited to chairing the committee."
In addition, Mullens provided the following statement:
"College football plays a vital role in intercollegiate athletics, and it is an honor to continue to serve on the CFP Selection Committee. I look forward to partnering with the other committee members and the staff to build on the strong foundation which has been created in the first four years of the CFP."
Mullens will be joined by several new members of the committee and they arrive as follows.
These new members will have quite a bit of time to focus on the task at hand before the ultimate selection of the top four for 2018 and it will be interesting to see how the new crew fares.
