A new school has moved into the Top 5 of the recruiting rankings

This is a big boost for a program that needed it.

I guess this is the result you hope for when you hire a new coach.

After adding two big commitments in the past two weeks, Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns have moved into the Top 5 of the recruiting rankings over at 247Sports. Texas officially passed Notre Dame earlier this week thanks to the commitments of four-star defensive back DeMarvion Overshown and four-star running back Kaeontay Ingram.

Texas still trails Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, and LSU — in that order — in the rankings.

The news is good for Texas, as their recruiting slipped last year after all the controversy that surrounded former head coach Charlie Strong. Strong was clearly in a win or go home year as head coach, as the uncertainty around his future definitely turned recruits off of the program. It was unfortunate for Texas, as their recruiting slipped after a Top 10 recruiting year the season before.

Four-star safety Caden Sterns is currently the top commitment for Texas this year. He's a Top 50 overall recruit.

Following Texas in this year's rankings are Notre Dame, Florida State, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Michigan. If you are looking for Alabama, you're going to have to scroll down a bit; the Tide are still 64th in the nation, as they only have two commitments so far this recruiting cycle.

Long way to go, though, so don't expect them to stay that low by any means.
